Summer Lovin' Book Boyfriend Runner-Up

Leaving his last foster home, Tyson Ellison signed his name on the dotted line and checked out entirely, looking for something he felt missing. Four tours of service over-seas, too much death, too much violence, brought him back stateside. He was tired, drained, and still empty with nothing left to give. He hopped on his Ducati and headed northwest from his base in Georgia, the only place he’d ever called home. Fate ran him out of gas in the tiny town of Renlend, Kansas with nothing but his Army-issued duffle holding a few meager belongings.
For two years Dianna’s father has made sure something around their family-owned Bed and Breakfast needed attention. Tyson’s attention. His handy-man skills put them in each other’s space on a regular basis, her dad pointing out the vet’s attributes regularly. She isn’t oblivious, she’d memorized each one. Tyson’s body was made for the movies, and so he kind of flirted with and smiled at her. Always managed to speak to her when he is there working.
But in what lifetime would a ripped, tanned, tattooed Army veteran want with the shyest girl in town? Especially someone as plain Jane as her.

From Tyson Ellison
“God, Dianna, I’ve needed you for so long, love. I didn’t mean to come in here and well…I truly was just going to ease you away from the window before Drew said something to embarrass me. But, hell, I don’t know. Seeing you in this strappy sundress and cowboy boots—” He ran his fingers through her hair, down to the strap of the dress, leaving his forefinger beneath the skinny piece of material resting on her skin. “I. Geez, the good gentleman part of me knows I need to apologize, but the rest of me won’t let the words form. I need you to know how I feel, and honestly, I really want to know if you feel the same way. Drew says I’m stalking you. I didn’t tell the jerk he was right, but you’re all I think about.”

Dianna felt his warm breath against her ear, and then as he started to speak, her heart jumped to her throat.
“You’re mine now,” Tyson whispered.

“First off, Dianna Lane, I will go to drastic measures to change your attitude.” Her eyes widened, not exactly sure how to take his threat. The second one in less than five minutes. His face twisted, not hiding the smoldering heat building in his eyes. “Now, secondly, I am pretty damn sure you’re wrong. As a matter of fact, picturing you—” He let out a long wolfish breath of air through his teeth, close to a whistle. “Oh, yeah. Even better than lingerie—you very much naked with the only things on you being my eyes, my hands, my mouth—need I go on?”

“You’re a naughty man, Mr. Ellison.”  (Dianna Lane)
“Oh, love, I told you I wasn’t innocent. And I plan to make sure you know how not innocent, how not perfect, how not nice I am—over and over and over. I want to hear you. I want my name falling from your lips. But not tonight. I promised.”

Blurb:
Archaeologist Riley Cooper is offered the chance of a lifetime: a chance to find the Crux Fidelis, the coronation cross of Charlemagne. Under Water Sea Adventures members believe they have found the remains of the Indigo, a heavily laden cargo ship commissioned by Charlemagne and presumed lost on its maiden voyage off the coast of southern Italy in the early 800s. If Riley can find the cross, it will prove Charlemagne’s coronation as the First Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Leo III on Christmas Day had not been a spontaneous act, but rather a desperate political maneuver by a Pope in need of protection.

When Riley joins UWSA off the coast of Sorrento, Italy, tensions and tempers fly as a competing team arrives in search of the treasure and an approaching hurricane gains strength and heads straight toward the dive site. And when one of the crew is murdered, Riley must find the strength to fight back and keep the treasure out of the other team’s hands.

GUEST BLOG- KORY M. SHRUM

As a writer I have very eclectic reading needs. Also, I like to read what I’m trying to write. If my WIP has a strong mystery element, I might find myself seeking out a sassy sleuth. Or if my WIP has a strong scifi/fantasy vibe, I’ll need good world-building books to keep me company. So here are a few books that inspired me to write better. And even if you aren’t a writer, they are ridiculously good reads! :D

Science Fiction
Dune by Frank Herbert
Spin by Robert Charles Wilson
Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
World War Z by Max Brooks

Fantasy
Blue Moon and Narcissus in Chains by Laurell K. Hamilton (& other early Anita Blake novels)
Storm Front by Jim Butcher (and other Dresden novels)
Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (and other Mercy Thompson novels)
Graveyard Shift by Angela Roquet (and other Lana Harvey Reaper novels)
Midnight Blue by Nancy A. Collins

Mystery/Crime
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich

Horror
anything by Stephen King
Short Fiction/Collections
Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman
Vampires in the Lemon Grove by Karen Russell
I am Legend by Richard Matheson

Graphic Novels/Comics
The Sandman Series by Neil Gaiman
Fun Home and Are You My Mother by Alison Bechdel
Hyperbole and a Half by Ali Brosch
Ghost World by Daniel Clowes

YA
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Graceling, Fire, and Bitterblue by Kristen Cashore
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
Harry Potter series, of course.

Nonfiction
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
Running with Scissors by
Augusten Burroughs
On Writing: A Memoir on Craft by Stephen King
Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick (based on a true story anyway)

Notice that I don’t have a strong romance section. That is an invitation! If you have great romance books in mind, let me know. I’m always looking to expand my repertoire ;)

The Interview

TWINS - Where is your favorite place to go in the summer?

ANGELA -I don’t really have a specific place. As long as I’m outside, enjoying the sunshine, I’m happy. It doesn’t matter if it’s my backyard, the local park, or walking along the riverfront.

TWINS - What is your dream summer destination?

ANGELA - The beach. I will always choose the beach. My son is two and hasn’t seen the ocean yet, I can’t wait to take him.

TWINS - What is your favorite summer activity?
ANGELA - My favorite summer activity would have to be outdoor picnics or barbeques with family and friends. I love to just hang out, enjoy the weather, and spend time with the people I love.

TWINS - Swimming or sun bathing?

ANGELA - Neither. I know that’s not a great answer, but I’m not big on either. I don’t have the patience for sun bathing (plus I’m REALLY fair, so it’s usually a disaster), and I can’t swim.

TWINS - Fishing or boating or both?

ANGELA - Boating (as long as I have a life jacket…see above answer about not being able to swim)

TWINS - Beach or Lake or Pool?

ANGELA - Beach. There’s nothing better than the feel of the sand between your toes, and the sound of the ocean at your back.

TWINS - Hiking or biking?

ANGELA - I love to hike. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the summer.

TWINS - Camping or vacationing?

ANGELA - Honestly, I love both. But with a two year old, camping can be trying. I’ll go with vacationing.

TWINS - In your opinion what is the sexiest summer wear on a man? woman?

ANGELA - Well…that easy. Same answer for both…a swimsuit (and it doesn’t have to show a lot of skin).

TWINS - What is your go to summer read?

ANGELA - Anything by Julia Quinn or Susan Elizabeth Phillips

TWINS - Since it is summer and we love steamy reads for summer, what is your favorite steamy summer read?
ANGELA - I just finished reading Meeting His Match by Katee Robert. Loved it. It’s definitely my summer 2014 favorite.

TWINS - Where do you prefer to read in the summer?

ANGELA - Ideally, I‘d loved to be curled up on my porch swing with a glass of white wine.

TWINS - When you think summer what is the first thing to come to mind?

ANGELA - Freedom. I hate being stuck inside.
TWINS - Have you ever had a summer fling/love?

ANGELA - Haven’t we all?

TWINS - What is the sexiest way to travel in the summer? (type of car, motorcycle, bike)
ANGELA- Motorcycle...all the way.

Everyone has a breaking point.

Shadow Born, Book 2

Her hundred-year penance lifted, Shadow Bearer Brenna Baudouin returns to the Earthly plane with her partner, Gray Warlow, to keep the peace between humans and supernatural creatures—and to prevent another apocalyptic war from happening.

The attraction between them is nearing a critical point, but their checkered history has left Brenna unable to trust either her heart or her instincts.

It’s chaotic business as usual until humans begin turning to statues of dust. There is no explanation, no sign of magical foul play or a biological toxin. The humans are convinced it’s the work of a deviant supernatural faction, twisting the knife in the already tense relationship between their species. Brenna and Gray agree—the deaths have a former comrade-turned-rogue stamped all over them.

In a race against time, they enlist the help of both friend and foe to save the human race and stop the impending civil war. Along the way, they are forced to come to terms with their past and decide, once and for all, whether they will come together or fall apart.

Warning: Contains a heroine who knows her weapons but not her own heart, an outbreak of supernatural proportions, copious bloodletting, and a race to save an endangered species—humans. All tied up in a tight bow of sexual tension.
