the one person you truly love is gone.

It is a rare thing to find your soul mate, but Jess found true love in Dave
when they were only teenagers. They've built a happy life together in a small
shore town, becoming pillars of the community and making everyone around them
envious of the seemingly perfect life they have built together. Jess has always
been the life of the party, and Dave was always there to reel her in and keep
her safe. But one night, while on duty as the town Sheriff, the unimaginablehappens, altering the directions of their lives forever.

This is a story about finding love, having it all taken away, and discovering
that moving on doesn't mean forgetting the past.

**DUST TO DUST is the first book of the series and introduces you to the close
relationships these five friends have with each other. This is the second book
of the series, but can be read as a stand alone.
**
Excerpt One
He places my naked body on the bed and stands above me looking like a Greek god in all of his muscular, hard glory. “Save it, I want you now. I’m going to spend all night making sure you know how much I love you.”
When he comes down on top of me, I can’t help but sigh in relief at the feeling of his skin on mine. I’m pulsing with need when I feel him brush up against my sex, teasing me as he takes my hands and holds them above my head with a sultry smile. I wrap my legs around his muscular thighs, pulling him towards me with them, unable to wait any longer to have him inside me. “Please Dave, I want you. I need you right now.”
He lets out a growl and slides slowly inside me, letting me feel every inch of him fill my core. He begins to move slowly back, his deep brown eyes burrowing into mine, watching my pleasure escalate with each thrust inside me. He releases my hands allowing me to wrap them around his taught, muscular arms while he takes my full breasts in his hand.
“You are so amazing,” he says breathless, “so fucking amazing, I can do this all night.”
“I could do this forever,” I say climbing closer to my release.
“You’re my forever.”
Dave spends the rest of the night proving he really can make love to me all night. Never in all the times we’ve been together, have I felt more loved, more content, more aroused than tonight. His touch is like a dream that I never want to end. There’s nothing else in the world that matters but him. My love. My life.

Excerpt Two
An hour late. Dave’s an hour late for his own birthday dinner and hasn’t even bothered to call. He isn’t usually this inconsiderate, but I can’t help but think he snuck away for a quick workoutat Crossfit before coming home. I swear he’s freaking addicted, and while I don’t mind the results, I wish he’d have called instead of left Charlotte and me sitting here waiting.
I go to the kitchen to check that the prime rib I have resting isn’t completely destroyed when the doorbell rings. “Charlotte, will you get it?” I call from the kitchen knowing it’s probably Cam and Holden with the girls. I’d invited them over for some cake for dessert, but had also forgotten to tell them that we haven’t eaten dinner yet. Oh well, I have wine, and plenty of food if they want dinner too. I grab a dish towel and wipe the meat juices off my hands before going to greet my friends. I’ll have to use all my control not to show them how pissed I am at Dave right now. I never like to involve others in our arguments and don’t want to make for an awkward night. After the enjoyment he gave me last night, I think I can probably give him a pass. A devilish smile crosses my face just as I turn the corner to our entryway to see Kat, Joey, and Sarg. Kat is leading Charlotte down the steps and I fall to the ground, knowing what they are here to tell me. I can’t speak. I can’t move. For a moment I just sit there, clutching the damn dinner towel for life staring up at the two men before me. Sarg only comes to an officer’s house unannounced for one reason, and it’s never a good one.
Joey comes to my side and takes me in his arms. His touch is like acid on my skin and I flinch away. “Don’t you say it Joey. Don’t you fucking say it!” I scream up at him with tears bursting through my words. My insides feel like they’re tearing apart, each nerve splintering in agony.
“Come with us Jess. You need to come before it’s too late,” Sarg says from above us as Joey tenderly picks me up in his arms.
“Charlotte. Where’s Charlotte?” I ask frantically looking around.
“I called Kat from the ambulance and asked her to meet us here. She’s taking Char back to her house and will keep her there tonight so you can be with Dave.” Joey wipes my tear soaked hair from my face. “He’s been shot Jess. It’s not good. Not good at all.”
I feel like my own life is slipping away with his words. My life is Dave’s. “He can’t die Joey. I can’t live without him.”

Excerpt Three
She looked up at me and my heart skipped a beat, “Make love to me Dave. Do everything you’ve dreamed about to me right here. Right now.” Jess reached down and slowly untied my bathing suit, kissing up along my neck completely making me unravel. I reached down and slid my fingers under the hem of her ruffled red bathing suit bottom, making her shiver in excitement. “Oh God Jess, I want you. You are so beautiful.”
“Promise me,” her face was suddenly vulnerable and right then and there she could’ve asked for the world and I’d give it to her. Jess never showed vulnerability. That was one of the things that always kept things exciting between us, we were both fighters. We were both strong.
I brushed my nose against hers before kissing her neck, as I slid the small piece of cloth coveringwhat I wanted so badly and a guttural moan escaped me, “Anything,” I said breathless, opening her to me, making sure she was ready for me.
“Don’t ever leave me,” she said panting as I slid into her.
She was so tight, so wet, I nearly lost myself right then. But instead, I stilled for a moment, taking in every bit of heaven it was to be inside her this way. I wanted nothing more at that moment than to make that night one we would never forget. I leaned into her, pressing her lips to mine, pouring my soul into our kiss. The way her lips sent shocks through my entire body, almost had me coming apart again, it was so full of need.
I pulled back and looked her in her eyes, “I promise Jess. I’ll never want to be anywhere but with you.” And that was the truth, in all these years, I’ve never wanted to be anywhere but with her.

Excerpt Four
He starts to reach his hand out to me but then pulls back, wringing his hands together as if he’s trying to keep himself from offending me with his touch. He looks out to the ocean and we both stand there in silence for a moment. “There isn’t a day that passes that I don’t miss my wife, Cassie.” I look over at his somber face and he turns to me with those hypnotizing eyes, “It’ll get easier, Jess. I promise.”
I try to smile and look out to the ocean, not able to look at him and talk of Dave. It feels like a betrayal when I get lost in his blue eyes. “What if I said I don’t want it to get easier? It feels like if it doesn’t hurt, then it wasn’t real.”
I feel his hand slide across the palm of my hand, forcing me to look up at him, “Do you think that’s what he’d want?” His words cut at me. It’s as if Dave is speaking through him. He lightly squeezes my hand before letting it go. “I’ll let you be alone now. “ His confident demeanor turns soft for a moment, “It really is nice seeing you again, Jessica.” He turns and begins walking back to the house.
I sit down in the sand, watching the waves crash against the shore, trying to focus my thoughts on Dave and away from Gage’s eyes. Waves of guilt mirror those in front of me, forcing me to close off my heart and remember that my heart will only every belong to Dave. No one else.

Excerpt Five
“You look amazing tonight…” he pauses and rubs his hand across his scruffy chin giving me a look that turns my insides out. Watching him look at me this way while contemplating his thoughts makes me do the one thing I’ve thought of too many times of doing tonight, and I reach up and run my fingertips across the side of his face, smiling when it feels just as I hoped. He closes his eyes and smiles sadly. When he opens them and looks down at me, they are suddenly clear and bright again. He brushes my hair away from my face and his look is so full of meaning. “Jess,” his voice is a whisper, “Ireally want to kiss you right now.” He moves his face slowly towards mine, his gaze never breaking, waiting for me to say no or stop him. But I don’t. I can’t. His full lips press to mine, delicately at first, setting my body on fire. His soft lips connect with mine, causing me to let out a sigh. He moves his hand up to my face and I do the same, and his other holds me pressed up against his firm body.

Fun Facts About Wished Away

WISHED AWAY and all the books of my A Broken Fairy Tale series take place in a shore town that my grandparents lived in for most of my life. Cutter Lane, which is the name of a restaurant in the series, is the name of the street they lived on and was my favorite place in the world to go.
Jess and Dave were the easiest characters that I have ever written, but also the most heartbreaking.
I listen to music while I write for extra inspiration. While I love rock and rap too, this book was mostly filled with great emotional songs. My playlist is filled with Coldplay, The Killers, Passengers, Christina Perri, Mumford and Sons, The Civil Wars, John Legend, and a lot of singles like, Mine Would be You, Summertime Sadness… I could go on.
There are characters from my YA romantic fantasy Secrets of Shadow Hill series that make a cameo in WISHED AWAY as a little treat for my fans.
The next book in the series, HIS JAR OF HEARTS, will focus on Joey and Kat!

Favorite Quotes

“You’re all I need Jess. You’re all I’ll ever need.”- I love this because it shows that even after so many years together, Jess and Dave were as much in love then as they were the day they met.

“What if I said I don’t want it to get easier? It feels like if it doesn’t hurt, then it wasn’t real.”I feel his hand slide across the palm of my hand, forcing me to look up at him, “Do you think that’s what he’d want?” His words cut at me. It’s as if Dave is speaking through him. He lightly squeezes my hand before letting it go. - I like this quote because Gage says the things to Jess that others are too worried to.
“Jess,” his voice is a whisper, “I really want to kiss you right now.”- I love this so hard becausewho wouldn’t want a hot man saying that to you! LOL

He actually lets out a growl before pulling me close again and nips at my ear, “You have no idea who you’re dealing with Jess. Don’t tempt me.” He pulls back and his eyes turn soft, “We’re both drunk, and I don’t want you to have any regrets tomorrow.” – I think this shows how much he respects her and understands her need to take things slow, while showing his dominant side.

“Is that what you’re doing, Jess? Are you living?”- This part questions if Jess is honoring Dave’s last wish and starts to have Jess begin to open up more.

Kat takes my free hand in hers, “Jess, you’ll never leave him behind, none of us will. But it’s time to move on.”- At this point Jess needs her family and friends support while dealing with her mixed emotions. This is a moment of change for her.

He took in a deep breath and lifted my face so my eyes met his, “This look Jess, this is a look of love.” He placed his hands on my cheeks bearing his gaze into mine, lacing his heart to mine. “When I look at you this way, you need to know it’s only because I love you.”- I mean, really…who wouldn’t want to hear that?

“You make me feel so much more than I ever thought I could feel with just a touch.” He trails his fingers teasingly down the V of my sweater, along my breast, making me shiver. “You mean so much, I just want to drown in you Jess. I want to drown in all of you.”- I love this because it shows their connection with each other is so much more powerful than anything they’ve felt before.

“Dreams change Jess.” He reaches over, takes my hand in his, and places a kiss on my palm, making the connection I so badly crave, “Dreams change.”- This shows how much she means to him and how much he doesn’t take love for granted anymore.

“He’s the plaster for your cracks, Jess. Don’t let him get away.”- I love this quote from Joey because as cheesy as he is, this really does say on a very basic level what Gage does for Jess.

5 Important Things to Know About Gage Scott
When anyone first sees Gage, they are struck by his electric blue eyes and jarring good looks. After playing a fun game of Twenty Questions with Gage at the beach, I learned a lot more about him than I planned when twenty questions turned to more like one hundred. Here are a few highlights!

After finishing medical school he went to Africa, where he worked with Doctors Without Borders. Before moving to Brick, he worked in 9 different countries.
His favorite food is sushi. He will eat ANYTING!
He loves to sing along to every song and seems to know the words, even to songs I’ve never heard, and it is sexy as hell with that deep raspy voice he has.
He is biggest pet peeve is when people say “Like” a lot.
He has six tattoos that are hidden when he is dressed in his medical coat including an intricate sleeve that he just added some very special details to.

5 Important Things to Know About Jess
Anyone who has ever met Jess knows she is outspoken and full of energy. She also has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I have ever met. But don’t let those magnetic blue eyes fool you, there are a few things everyone needs to know about Jess to stay on her good side or else you could be in a world of hurt.

Jess loves food. Bringing her a treat from Freedman’s Bakery will always get you on her good side. The only things she doesn’t like are black olives (Just like me), anchovies, and raisins.
Jess has a big heart and sometimes too big. She has a hard time saying no and sometimes over extends herself.
She loves to sing. Loves it. However, she is absolutely horrible. Be warned, she will sing loud and proud.
Jess has a foul mouth. She has a hard time taming her expletives so much that her daughter Charlotte created a money jar that Jess has to put a dollar in every time she curses in front of any children. Charlotte should have college paid for in another year at this rate.
Jess is the pulse that makes my heart beat.

Five Tear Jerker Movies and Books
WISHED AWAY is a very emotional book, so I thought it would be fun to tell you some of the booksand movies that have made me ugly cry. This list could go on and on!
Movies
SIX WEEKS with Dudley Moore (1982)- I know, you’re probably like, “What?”- This is the first movie I remember actually bawling to. I was probably 8 or 9 when I saw this on HBO, and it just stuck with me. I’ve seen it probably twenty times and cry like a baby every time.
THE NOTEBOOK - The scene on the dock in the rain….Oh.My.God. If you didn’t cry in the movie, you’re dead inside. Lol.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN- Every time I see this movie, I cry. I fell in love with each character and it was just heart breaking watching what so many men, young and old had to go through in the name of freedom.

Books

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS- I just read this and holy cow. My husband was looking at me like I was crazy. It is such an emotional book, and even though I knew the story line, I was a mess!

SLAMMED- I love Colleen Hoover and all she does. While HOPELSS had me in tears too, I couldn’t hold myself together as this book progressed. The poetry was beautiful and moving adding a level of emotion that I didn’t expect! “So you keep the ocean, I’ll take the Lake.”
