LEANN'S REVIEW: Evernight (Claudia Gray) Evernight #1

Title: Evernight

Author: Claudia Gray

Series: Evernight

Format: Paperback

ISBN13: 9780061284397

Published February 10th 2009 by HarperTeen

Summary:

Bianca wants to escape. She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.

Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.

"I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would."

But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

Review:

What drew me to this book was the title. It intrigued me alone. The summary did little to reveal what lied within the cover. It didn't take me long to be completely caught up in this story.

I really like the idea behind this vampire boarding school. It was interesting and I liked the characters created by Gray. I loved the pull that Lucas and Bianca had toward each other. I also liked Bianca's parents.. How often can you say that about parents in a teen novel...

Overall I think what I most liked about the book was the school. Yes you have the forbidden love and mystery that follows with vampire lore, but the idea behind this school was what really intrigued me. I have yet to stumble across a book that took this approach with vampires and other supernaturals. I realize other books have boarding schools with teen supernaturals but this is a different approach to that and I respect the creativity. It definitely hooked me.

I definitely look forward to diving into the next installment of this series.
